Alexander Zverev against Jiri Lehecka head to head

There was a previous meeting between these two and that was in the United Cup earlier this year. Lehecka had put the returning Zverev to flight in straight sentences.

Zverev is still struggling to find form

Zverev has not been at his best since returning from the injury he picked up at the French Open last season. And understandably so. The type of injury he sustained and subsequently required surgery takes time to reach full fitness, both health wise and playing related.

That translated into a 3-6 win-loss record for Zverev in 2023.

It started with a couple of singles losses at the United Cup, followed by a win and a loss at the Australian Open, Davis Cup and Rotterdam Open.

Last week Zverev was involved at the Doha Open where he lost in the second round after a bye to Andy Murray.

And here he meets a player who defeated him in the United Cup season opener. Can Zverev finally turn the corner?

Lehecka has improved a lot this year

Just two years ago, Lehecka was 355th in the world rankings. He finished the 2021 season ranked 141 and 12 months, finished another tennis season ranked 81 in the world.

More recently he has taken his tennis to another level and that has resulted in Lehecka reaching a career high at No. 37 on the ATP charts.

A few results later he’s settled back just outside the top 50 but he’ll be quite happy to see his performances at the Australian Open and ATP Doha.

Lehecka shocked Cameron Norrie and Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first Major of the season to reach the quarterfinals. And a few Davis Cup victories later, he had defeated Andrey Rublev and reached the semifinals at the Qatar Open.

All in all, Lehecka has beaten Zverev, Norrie, Auger-Aliassime and Rublev this season and we’re not even two months into it.

It wouldn’t be a big surprise if he hit Zverev again.

Zverev v Lehecka prediction and tip

While Zverev is a favorite here according to the bookies, it would be foolhardy to miss Lehecka’s chances in this case. We expect him to win a set for starters and make life extremely difficult for Zverev on the pitch.
