During his high-level night speech, Trayce Jackson-Davis turned to Tayven Jackson and said, “Tay-Tay, it’s your time to shine here.”

This time has started with the spring camp of IU football.

Jackson, the IU basketball star’s younger brother, arrives in Bloomington after moving from Tennessee and enters a question-marked quarterback room.

The Hoosiers don’t have much experience at the jumpball position. With Connor Bazelak and Jack Tuttle making the move, only Dexter Williams II returns with meaningful gameplay. And he won’t be playing this spring as he continues to recover from the knee injury he sustained in the season finale against Purdue.

So Jackson will have plenty of opportunities to show his skills. The redshirt freshman appeared in three games with the Volunteers last season, all ending in blowout wins. He totaled 37 passing yards on a 3-for-4 line, along with 10 rushing yards on four attempts with a touchdown.

Brendan Sorsby is IU’s only returning quarterback to pitch this spring. The redshirt freshman faced Penn State in a difficult position in a game last season, and he struggled. He went 3 for 6 for eight yards with an interception and lost eight rushing yards on two tries (to a sack).

And true newcomer Broc Lowry also comes into play. The three-star recruit was ranked the No. 25 pocket passer in the country by ESPN and he was Ohio’s top quarterback in the Class of 2023. Lowry led Canfield (Ohio) High School to a state championship as a senior.

IU hopes Williams will be ready to return in time for fall camp, though he may not become the starter even if he is. But no matter who Indiana goes with, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Walt Bell will have a player without much experience of the collegiate-level game.

Here’s a breakdown of who’s come and gone in the Quarterback Room. Stay tuned for more updates by location.
