Donna Vekic vs. Ysaline Bonaventure head to head

That has also resulted in her being ranked No. 31 in the world before the start of this tournament. And if she finds a way to win this encounter, Vekic could well be knocking on the doors of a top-25 spot again.
This is the same player who was ranked 112th in the world about 12 months ago. She started this season ranked 67th and continued to roll.

Bonaventure needs three sets against Rakhimova
It was a hard-fought win for Bonaventure, but a rare win in order as she recorded a consecutive main draw win for the first time since reaching the semifinals at the Auckland Open earlier this season.
Bonaventure was led to a tie-breaker in the opening set by Kamila Rakhimova, for the second time in a row this tournament she had to fight to win the opening set. And she dropped the second before finding a way to come back and shock her Russian opponent.
This came after Bonaventure started the game at odds of 13/10 to win the encounter.
Interestingly, in the two hour and five minute match, Bonaventure was able to break her opponent three times while she faced 12 break points and dropped serve four times. And yet she kept her nerve when it really mattered to achieve victory.

No wonder Vekic is a favorite here, at 1/4 odds on her win. While this also seems to indicate that it should be an easy win, Bonaventure has done a good job in all tournaments, putting up a brave front and not giving up too easily. That could be a factor here.
