Our 2023 ATP Chile Open Predictions & Tips
Cristian Garin is the only Chilean to have won this tournament. While he has the clay court skills to thrive on this surface, he has not rediscovered the form that propelled him into the world top 20 a few seasons ago.
This could be a big tournament for Dominic Thiem. I was particularly impressed with the level and endurance he showed at the Rio Open, losing an epic to Thiago Monteiro. If Thiem continues to play with enthusiasm and determination, he could represent good value in the outright market this week.
Lorenzo Musetti is top seed in name only. His form just doesn’t live up to his reputation as a favorite this week. He was upset by Nicolas Jarry at the first hurdle in Rio. It’s now a win in five games for the Italian one-hander.
It’s worth keeping an eye on last year’s finalist Sebastian Baez. The Argentine took a turn in the Golden Swing and returned to the winners’ circle in Cordoba. Baez also made it into the last eight in Rio last week and will be a tough nut to crack on the red clay in Santiago.
