Stefanos Tsitsipas – Tallon Griekspoor Head to Head

World No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas has not played against Tallon Griekspoor before.

Tsitsipas makes Hijikata easy work

Stefanos Tsitsipas booked his place in the third round of the Australian Open with a dominant display of aggression and finesse. He defeated Australian wild card Rinky Hijikata 6-3, 6-0, 6-2 in an hour and 32 minutes.

After a brave win in the opening round against Quentin Halys that pushed Tsitsipas to the limit, he had a more routine day at the office on a rain-stuttered Wednesday.

Tsitsipas didn’t even need to engage first gear as he tormented Hijikata with his powerful serve (which saved all five he faced in the match), peaking at 130mph – the fastest in the match.

The Greek superstar hit 30 winners from 17 unforced errors and converted six of nine break points. Tsitsipas has made it to the semifinals in three of his last four appearances at the Australian Open.

But in that span, he lost to Milos Raonic in the third round in 2020. Could the heavy-hitting Griekspoor stun the third seed?

Griekspoor upsets compatriot van de Zandschulp

Tallon Griekspoor reached the third round of the Australian Open for the first time at the expense of compatriot Botic van de Zandschulp. He did so with a fully deserved 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win in just over two hours.

Griekspoor was the better player for most of the game, which was temporarily suspended due to rain. Griekspoor, 26, broke van de Zanschulp twice in the first two sets but it was much closer in the third set.

Van de Zandschulp raced to a 2-0 lead, but it was short-lived as Griekspoor demonstrated his authority by outsmarting his compatriot with his precise groundstrokes from the baseline and claiming the break.

And moments later it was Griekspoor who took the lead in game three, completing the win with his first match point.

Tsitsipas v Griekspoor prediction and tip

This will be the ultimate test for Tallon Griekspoor yet. He is unbeaten in seven games since the turn of the year and won his first ATP title in Pune, which led to the Australian Open. But Tsitsipas has been challenging himself at the highest level in the opening weeks of the season and should end the Dutchman’s streak.
