The chances of a win against the Washington Wizards looked bleak until Stephen Curry shifted gears and took control of the game. With a little help from Jordan Poole, Curry paved the way for the Warriors to win. The two-time MVP’s spectacular 41-point show was highly acclaimed by the NBA community. Still, an NBA veteran’s comments weren’t well received by fans.

Former New York Knicks head coach Jeff Van Gundy showered the four-time NBA champion with praise. In doing so, the electricity ESPN Commentator also made a bold claim. He said, “It could be argued persuasively that he’s been the league’s most valuable player for the last ten years.” He spoke about Curry while considering Curry’s accomplishments over the decade. When reports of his comments made the rounds online, fans were quick to react.

Jeff Van Gundy faces the brunt of NBA Twitter

NBA fans seemingly dismissed Gundy’s claim that Curry was the most valuable player of the last decade. With that in mind, they brought LeBron James into the conversation. Fans indicated that the decade included years when LeBron was at his A-game. As such, they claimed that with such dominance, it would be unfair to declare Curry MVP of the decade. Fans argued that if James wasn’t in the current league, the Warriors veteran could have been the league’s most valuable player. Some even pointed out that Curry was her No. 2 when Kevin Durant was with the Warriors.

Coach Steve Kerr on Stephen Curry

As the NBA world debated Curry’s worth and impact on the league, his head coach Steve Kerr made his thoughts clear. After the game against the Washington Wizards, Kerr, himself a five-time NBA champion, was in awe of his team’s leader. in the Post-match press conferencehe said, “He is [Curry] the modern MJ [Michael Jordan].”

As seen in the game against the Wizards, more than half of the arena was filled with people sporting a number 30 jersey with Curry’s name on it. Kerr explained that this is the effect Michael Jordan had on the league in his day.

While making this claim, he also explained why fans easily connect with the two-time MVP. He said, “I think people can relate to him because he’s not that superhero in terms of size and strength.”
