Andrey Rublev against Emil Ruusuvuori head to head
Their only previous meeting was at ATP Dubai 2021. Rublev won that in straight sets and advanced to the third round.

It didn’t take Rublev long to break his surprise losing streak as the Russian came through in straight sets against Dominic Thiem in his opener at the Australian Open.
Rublev, who had lost his first-round matches at Adelaide International 1 and 2, came back strong against the former US Open winner, in a 6-3 6-4 6-2 win.
Rublev’s serve was so strong that he only had two break points throughout the encounter, saving both with ease. Rublev also won 81% of his first serve points as he delivered 33 winners in the encounter.
What Rublev needs to do is work on the mistakes he makes in the games – there were 34 of them in this one – if he wants to challenge the final stages of this tournament.

Ruusuvuori finally manages to win
Twice this season Ruusuvuori has entered a tournament hoping to get his first win of the year and both times he was sent home in his opening game.
It happened in Pune where Ruusuvuori lost to Benjamin Bonzi and then again at the Adelaide International 2 where Mikael Ymer defeated him.
So even though he went into his opener as a favorite against Max Purcell there were no guarantees of his form, especially when he lost the first set.
In the end, Ruusuvuori made it to the second round here at Melbourne Park for only the second time in his career, but it took him three hours and 36 minutes to do so.
Ruusuvuori won 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 (11) to prevail after also saving six set points in the fourth set.
Given the form Ruusuvuori is in and the way his opponent came through in his opening set in the second round, it’s hard to see how the world No. 46 can find a way past him.
