About the black bears
• The Black Bears enter the 2022-23 season with 16 new faces after 13 players have graduated, transitioned or left to pursue professional hockey.
• 12 letterwinners from the 2021-22 season return for this chapter of Maine hockey, including the four newly crowned captains. Jacob Sirota carries the ‘C’ while Lynden Breen, Ben Poissonand David Breazale all deserve an ‘A’ on their sweater.
• 11 newcomers and five transfers make up the players added by the coaching staff who are in their second full season behind the bench.
• Assistant Junior Captain Lynden Breen leads the Black Bears in goals (eight). Senior Deputy Captain forward Ben Poisson holds the team lead in assists (11) and points (16). Freshman defender Brandon Holt (4 G, 5 A) leads all newcomers in points.
• 12 different Black Bears have scored two or more goals in their first 19 games (Breen, Holt, Villeneuve-Houle, Hanson, Henbrant, Trudeau, Pabich, Poisson, Sirota, Antonacci, Freel and Renwick), while 18 different players have done so awarded three or more assists.
About the terriers
• Boston University finished the 2021-22 season with a record of 19-13-3, eventually losing 3-1 to UConn in the first round of the Hockey East tournament.
• The Terriers bring back four of their top five scorers of 2021-22 in Domenick Fensore, Wilmer Skoog, Matt Brown and Jay O’Brien.
• Drew Commesso made 28 appearances last season. The junior recorded a 2.52 GAA and .914 save percentage while winning 13 games and recording a shutout for the Terriers.
The series with Boston University
• Maine and BU have faced each other 138 times before Friday’s match, with BU holding a 69-55-14 lead in the all-time series.
• The teams played two games at the Alfond Arena and one in Boston last season. BU won a game in Boston and one in Orono while the Black Bears clinched an 8-1 win on seniors night.
• The Black Bears and Terriers met for the first time in the 1923-24 season, with the Black Bears winning that contest 4-2.
• Maine had an 11-game winning streak against the Terriers from October 31, 1986 to November 10, 1989.
