Rebecca Peterson vs. Caty McNally head to head

There have been no previous encounters between these two players on the WTA circuit. They faced each other at ITF level in 2019 and McNally had won that in straight sets.

Peterson Shocks Linette

Magda Linette had such a brilliant year that it came as no surprise that she went into her quarterfinals against Peterson as a favorite 9/20. Peterson winning was surprising enough, but to pull it off so easily is definitely victory for the Swede.

Peterson was on the court for an hour and 48 minutes before defeating Linette 6-2, 6-4. And while Peterson faced 10 break points in the match, she only got fully broken once, dishing out four breaks with serves in return.

It was in her first-ever service of the game that Peterson struggled to get going. Serving to equalize at 1-1, Peterson had to salvage eight break points in the second game of the game, but what was interesting to see was that after doing so, she went on with back-to-back breaks of serve.

It had been a stunning turnaround.

In the second set, Peterson quickly took a 5-1 lead and while she missed the first time, the Swede followed up with the win the second time she had the chance.

Can she maintain the winning form she’s already seen in this tournament with wins over Nadia Podoroska and Alycia Parks?

McNally an easy winner over Birrell

Much like Peterson, McNally didn’t waste much time getting past Kimberly Birrell in the quarterfinals as she defeated the Australian player in straight sets.

In a match that lasted an hour and 45 minutes, McNally overcame four breaks of serve to go 6-4, 6-3 and advance to the semifinals, having done so for the first time in her career back in 2019.

After shocking Lin Zhu in the first round and beating Katie Volynets in the second, McNally had a break in game seven of the opening set but came back by breaking her opponent twice in a row to win the set.

Four consecutive breaks of serve put the pair 4-3 in the second set before McNally broke her opponent again. She served it out of the next game to advance to the next stage.

Contrary to Peterson’s experience, McNally may need to find her way, but she certainly looks like she could do just fine.

Peterson v McNally prediction and tip

There’s not much choice between these two, but we have to pick the younger, more agile McNally who’s been dishing out opponents here for fun throughout the tournament.
