Jessica Pegula vs. Marta Kostyuk head to head
Pegula won her only meeting in Cincinnati last year. It was a three-set fight, with the American fighting back after a set to defeat the Ukrainian.

World No. 3 Jessica Pegula advanced to the third round of the Australian Open on Wednesday with a clear set win over Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the second round.
The win might not have been as easy as her first-round win over Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian as the Belarusian put up a fierce resistance in the second set, but the American finally prevailed after an hour and 32 minutes.
Pegula looked in great form in the opening set, breaking Sasnovich three times while only getting broken once in the set. She looked solid in the second set as well, breaking twice but the world number. 38 broke back on both occasions to hold the set on serve. Sasnovich also made it difficult for the third seedling in the tie-break. But finally Pegula prevailed in the tie-break with 6: 2, 7: 6 (7: 5).
Pegula, who have reached the quarterfinals for the past two consecutive years, had started their 2023 season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Cristian on Monday.
Pegula, who played an important role in the United States’ successful campaign at the inaugural United Cup, has improved to 6-1 in 2023. She had won four and lost one of her singles matches in the mixed tournament. She has had a solid 43-21 season in which she captured her second career title and finished second in another tournament. She has already started the new season well and wants to continue the momentum.

Kostyuk blows past Gadecki
Marta Kostyuk stormed into the third round of the Australian Open with a quick second-round win over Australia’s Olivia Gadecki.
Kostyuk finds himself in the round of 32 in Melbourne for the third time in four attempts. She has never made it through the third round, but given the way she started this year’s campaign, she will go into the next game believing she can do it this year.
The Ukrainian, who defeated Amanda Anisimova in straight sets on Monday, shot past Gadecki in less than an hour on Wednesday. Kostyuk didn’t have a break point in the match. But she converted 5 of 8 she held to knock out world No. 1. 199, 6-2, 6-1.
The Ukrainian had lost just eight points on her serve in the entire match. She had put in a similar performance in the opening round against Anisimova. She converted all four break points she held, saving 5 of 7 and defeating the American 6-3, 6-4.
This was Kostyuk’s fourth main draw win of the year and sixth overall after advancing from qualifiers to the quarterfinals in Adelaide-1.
Pegula v Kostyuk prediction and tip
Pegula is in fantastic form at the moment. Aside from a straight set loss to Petra Kvitova in her first game of the season, she has not lost a set this season and is on a six-game winning streak, including a win over Iga Swiatek at the United Cup. She also looked good in the first two rounds in Melbourne and will be the favorite against Kostyuk in the next round.
The Ukrainian has also found a good rhythm but will face a difficult task against third place.
