It’s March. And for sports fans, that means one thing above all – March Madness. But before we get to the NCAA tournament, we have a lot of conference championships. Including this one for the Big 12.
The Big 12 is a conference with only 10 teams – kind of weird, isn’t it? Which provides a rather odd bracket for March. But it’s a more straightforward bracket compared to some other conferences. The favorite for this tournament, of course, is regular-season champion Kansas. Who is also expected to reach #1 in the NCAA tournament next week? Of course, if they don’t win the tournament, it could affect the seeding for the NCAA tournament. Of course, they’re definitely in this year, so whatever happens in this tournament, Kansas dances in March.
Here’s how you can watch the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament this year.
What is the Big 12 bracket?
The bracket has been announced, and since it has 10 teams, some teams may skip the first round. Here is the full bracket.
As you can see, only four teams play in the first round to play for 1st and 2nd place. That’s Kansas and Texas. The good thing here is that unlike other conferences, teams only need to win a maximum of four games to win the conference tournament. But winning from 7 or lower seeds is quite unlikely. Especially since they would also have to come through Kansas, a pretty big basketball powerhouse, in 2023.
When is the Big 12 tournament?
The Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament kicks off at 6:00 pm CT on Wednesday, March 8, with West Virginia taking on Texas Tech. Followed by Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma at around 8:30pm CT.
The next round takes place every day after that. So if you’re in the first round and you make it to the championship game, that’s five games in five days. The championship game takes place on Saturday, March 11 at 5pm CT on ESPN. So it’s one of those conferences that ends their tournament the day before Selection Sunday.
Where can I watch the Big 12 tournament?
The 2023 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament will air this week on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. The Big 12 is one of the few larger power conferences that doesn’t have its own network. Here, then, every game belongs to the family of ESPN networks.
Each game leading up to the championship will be broadcast on multiple ESPN channels. And that’s because ESPN may have a different game in some regions as they have rights to many games during conference tournament week.
Sling TV
Sling TV will be the best place to watch the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament. It features the ESPN family of networks available in the Sling Orange package. That’s usually $40 a month, but right now they’re running a promotion where you get 50% off the first month. That makes it only $20 and you can cancel after March Madness is over.
Sling TV offers a 7-day free trial, which you can sign up for here.
YouTube TV
YouTube TV is our second option to watch the men’s Big 12 basketball tournament. That’s because it’s quite a bit more expensive than Sling TV at $65 per month. But you get all the channels for this tournament and just about every other basketball tournament — including the NCAA tournament later this month. In addition, YouTube TV offers unlimited cloud DVR, so you can record to watch later.
YouTube TV offers a free trial and you can sign up here.
Hulu + Live TV
Hulu + Live TV is a good option if you don’t like Sling TV or YouTube TV. It’s not that we don’t like Hulu + Live TV, it’s just more expensive and doesn’t offer much more. For $70 a month you can catch all ESPN channels along with most NCAA tournament channels to experience March Madness. It also has unlimited cloud DVR like YouTube TV.
Hulu offers a free trial for Live TV, which you can sign up for right here.
When is Selection Sunday?
The selection Sunday will take place on March 12th. This will take place after the conclusion of the conference championship games on Sunday. CBS normally airs The Selection Sunday Show between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. ET. However, sometimes it can get a bit late with games going into overtime at 4pm.
During the show, we’ll find out who’s in and who’s not in the NCAA tournament this year. While we have “experts” doing bracketology year-round, we have a good idea of who’s in and who’s not, but the committee can still surprise us. It will also be interesting to see who gets to play against whom.
Remember, conference tournament winners will receive an automatic NCAA tournament bid. So there will already be 32 teams in the field, and the committee needs to add another 36 teams. As well as sowing them in the right order. With four regions of 16 teams. Together with the first four games, a total of 68 teams take part in the tournament. And the excitement of March Madness lies ahead.
The NCAA tournament will have its First Four games March 14-15 in Dayton, OH. The first and second rounds will take place from March 16th to 19th. The Regionals will take place from March 23rd to 26th. And the Final Four takes place on April 1st, with the National Championship on April 3rd at NRG Stadium in Houston.
