Taylor Fritz vs. Tommy Paul head to head

There have been three previous encounters between these two players at the highest level and Fritz leads 2-1. They met at the Miami Open last year and Fritz had won that match in straight sets.

Fritz sends Tiafoe out

The world number five was in good rhythm and he showed it again in his quarterfinal match against Frances Tiafoe, whom he defeated quite easily. Fritz won 6-3, 6-4 in a match that lasted an hour and 36 minutes.

While both players performed well on their first serves, with Fritz winning 75% of those points and Tiafoe at 76%, it was on the second serves that the difference shone through.

Fritz continued to do well while beating his opponent’s second serves 64% of the time. This also helped Fritz break his opponent twice in the match while holding serve each time. However, he faced four break points.

This win follows a hard-fought win over John Isner in the first round and a straight set win over Denis Shapovalov in the second. He has now won seven in a row and seems poised for number eight.

Paul is also showing good form

It’s fast becoming a season to remember for Paul, who previously reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open. Here at the Acapulco Open, Paul has now won three matches in a row without dropping a set and is again through to the semifinals.

The last of those wins came against Mackenzie McDonald, whom he defeated 6-2, 6-2 in just 61 minutes to set up that meeting with Fritz.

Paul faced just one break point in the match and saved it while holding his opponent four times – two in each of the sets. His serve was so difficult for McDonald to break that he dropped just nine points on serve throughout the game.

This result follows wins over Emilio Gomez and Michael Mmoh in the first two rounds for Paul.

Now comes Paul’s greatest test against a player who has been successful and wins fairly regularly. What can Paul do to reverse this?

Fritz v Paul prediction and tip

Fritz will be a favorite and despite Paul’s obviously good form and talent we need to support Fritz to win and win easily. Set victory for the fifth in the world rankings.
