

The Brenham Cubette Softball Team returned to winning ways by winning both games on the opening day of the Brenham Tournament.
CUBETTE 13 MIDLAND LEGACY 2

At the end of the first inning, Avery led Maurer by a walk. Birthday boy Halle Scheel followed with an RBI triple, which Maurer scored on the first run of the game. Two batters later, Sarah Mabie hit to score Scheel and make Cubettes 2-0.
Then, at the end of the second inning, Kinley led Antkowiak away with a double. Maurer later hit a two run homer to make it 4-0 for Brenham. Scheel singled and later came around to score on a steal of home plate to give the Cubettes a 5-0 lead.
In the third inning, Sarah Mabie had a one-out double. Kinley Antkowiak caught a mistake that might have allowed a goal. Riley Meyer then came on with a two-run pinch hit homer that gave Brenham an 8-0 lead.
The offensive attack continued in the bottom quarter. Maurer and Scheel left. Kaylyn Rodriguez followed with a sacrificial fly that hit Maurer. Scheel later scored on a wild pitch and the Cubettes held a 10-0 lead. Annie Beckendorf went and Sarah Mabie doubled. Pinch hitter Nevaeh Holmes was hit by a pitch. Zoe Henderson drew a bases-loaded walk that gave Beckendorf a goal. Antkowiak reentered and ran for Henderson. Gonzales and Antkowiak both scored from penalties to increase the lead to 13-0.
Legacy got two runs in the top of the fifth from winning pitcher Heidi Busker. Della Jasinski came and got the last two outs.
CUBETTE 8 FORNEY 3

The Brenham Cubettes batted first again in their second game of the day. Avery Maurer started with a single, stole second place, finished third due to an error, and then scored with an RBI single from Kaylyn Rodriguez. Annie Beckendorf was hit by a pitch. Sarah Mabie then hit a two-run double that Rodriguez and Beckendorf scored. Mabie would then score on an RBI single from Kinley Antkowiak to make it 4-0 Cubettes after one inning.
At the end of the second inning, McKenzie Tiemann led with a triple and then scored with an RBI single from Avery Maurer. Mason would score her second run of the game on an RBI single from Kaylyn Rodriguez. Rodriguez scored in Mabie’s second RBI double of the game. Kaylie Rodriguez followed with an RBI triple to give the Cubettes an 8-0 lead.
The Jackrabbits scored two runs in the third and one in the fifth to cut the lead to 8-3, but that would be as close as can be. Della Jasinski went the distance, hitting eight, including two of the last three batsmen, to secure the win.
The Cubettes are scheduled to resume play tomorrow (Friday). They play Shadow Creek at 3pm and Rains at 5pm. KWHI will broadcast the game against Rains live, beginning with the pre-game at 4:35 p.m.
