BEAUMONT, Texas— The University of Pennsylvania baseball team begins a nine-day, eight-game trip through Texas and Louisiana with a three-game series against Lamar beginning Friday. The Quakers are returning to Texas for the first time since acquiring two of three from SEC member Texas A&M to open the 2022 season.

Penn last time
Penn gave #23 South Carolina three straight battles last weekend and limited a Gamecocks offense that averaged 16 runs per game to just 14 total runs in the three-game streak while losing two games on a single run . After a 7-4 loss on Friday, Zaffiro and David Schuhmacher combined to beat 12 Carolina Batters on Saturday, resulting in just three hits in eight innings of work in a 1-0 loss. On Sunday there were strong performances on the record Cole McGonigal, Nate Polo, Jarrett PokrovskyAnd Davis Baker helped put Penn ahead in sixth and then again in eighth before the hosts Gamecocks rallied for a 6-5 win.
Scout Lamar
The Cardinals’ fledgling season was filled with drama, yielding six one-run wins. Three players are batting over .300, led by Ben MacNaughton with .370, who also leads the team with six stolen bases (on six tries). Ryan Snell’s four home runs lead the team in that division.
On the mound, Jacob Ellis has achieved a 1.59 ERA in two starts and held opponents with a .162 batting average. In four relief appearances each, totaling 6.1 and 5.1 innings, respectively, Foster Kreuzer and Kole Tauzin both didn’t concede a run. As a staffer, the team has not conceded more than five runs in a game this season and has conceded three runs or fewer in each of the team’s last five games.

20 • After 3.1 scoreless innings of relief Saturday against the Gamecocks, Shoemaker now has 20 goalless appearances as a Quaker in his career, more than 71 percent of his games at Penn. 13 of those appearances were at least one inning, five of them at least two innings.
323 • Sunday’s game will be W. Joseph Blood Head Coach’s 323rd in Penn John Yurkovwhich put him in sole possession of third place for most head coaching games in program history, behind only Bob Seddon (1,233 games) and Walter Cariss (537).
