The VR space is constantly expanding with new headsets and technologies pushing the medium forward in amazing ways, but usually it’s the games and how they use each headset that matters most. That’s why Sony is making sure its upcoming PlayStation VR2 – due to launch on February 22nd – has a diverse selection of titles that showcase what its new device can do.
While many of these titles are updated ports of other headsets, the sheer number of unique experiences in the PSVR2 launcher means there should be something for everyone. If you’re planning on snagging the headset next month, here are seven launch games to keep on your radar when planning what to buy first.
Horizon: Call of the Mountain

Sony has positioned Horizon: Call of the Mountain as PSVR2’s killer app, and it’s easy to see why. Expanding the world and history of one of the company’s most popular first-party franchises, call of the mountain is a visual showcase, unlike anything else currently in the launch window. The game’s grand vistas are already eye candy from the early trailers, but experiencing the thrill of the series’ massive robotic dinosaurs running all over you or attacking you in mind-blowing action sequences is sure to be a must-have for most PSVR2 owners.
Moss and Moss: Book II

moss and Moss: Book II were originally released to critical acclaim for Sony’s first VR headset, but both games are now on their way to PSVR2. Each comes with updates that take advantage of the PSVR2’s new controllers. Fusing third-person platforming with first-person interaction to amazing effect, the Moss franchise allows players to help the adorable mouse protagonist Quill in her adventures through a beautiful, dangerous fairytale world. While maybe not the visual powerhouse of something like this Horizon: Call of the Mountainthese two beloved and emotional journeys are sure to warm all but the coldest of hearts – although the lack of a free upgrade is a bit disappointing for existing owners.
Firewall Ultra

First person multiplayer shooter Firewall hour zero was a stellar hit for PS VR when it launched in 2018, prompting developer First Contact Entertainment to push ahead with the upcoming sequel Firewall Ultra for PSVR2. Set five years after the original game, this remarkably detailed tactical shooter allows players to team up for strategic PVP and all-new, expanded PVE content across multiple modes, featuring all-new contractors, weapons, and maps. The team even promised they’d answered fans’ calls for a turn-based structure and dedicated servers, potentially making this exciting action game the multiplayer experience of choice during the PSVR2 launch window.
Zenith: The Last City

MMOs are an obvious choice for VR, but the genre has previously struggled to resonate particularly well with gamers due to the poor quality of releases. That changed with Zenith: The Last City when there was early access for headsets last year. This anime-style role-playing adventure has been a huge hit with players around the world thanks to its accessible gameplay and interesting world design, which has ensured that developer Ramen VR has continued to update the game regularly with new content . Featuring improved graphics and a completely free upgrade for PS VR owners, Zenith: The Last City will likely only see further achievements on PSVR2.
Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7 was one of the best-received racing titles in recent memory, and the announcement that the game will be getting a free day-one upgrade for PSVR2 was met with praise from across the industry. With 4K graphics and all the unique controller innovations that PSVR2 promises, this should be the most immersive way for players to enjoy racing in Sony’s beloved sim racer. For those interested, the game can even be played online to play against others in VR mode, making this one of PSVR2’s most enticing offerings for those seeking multiplayer challenges on launch day.
Resident Evil Village

Given the popularity of Resident Evil 7‘s VR mode made it a breeze Resident Evil Village would also find its way into virtual reality. A free DLC update will be available on day one for original game owners, allowing them to play through the entire campaign in a freshly designed VR mode. The new mode will also have some exclusive features such as: B. the ability to hold two weapons simultaneously (one in each hand) and more interactive reloading with the PSVR2 controllers. It may not be an entirely new survival horror game, but it will allow fans to see the full story from an immersive first-person perspective.
tentacle

tentacle made its debut on other headsets last year and quickly won the hearts of VR fans everywhere. Players take on the role of a gentle but giant squid raised by the human residents of a small coastal town as he attempts to discover his true origins by solving a variety of environmental puzzles around the island. While it certainly features some tricky moments, this humorous, physics-based title is all about the relaxed and humorous vibe that should set it on the right track to be a winner when it lands on PSVR2.
